She said, "A pH lipstick is a specially formulated lipstick that transforms it colour according to your skin's PH level. Since everybody's skin pH level is different, it gives an individual pink pay off. Moreover, its moisturizing as its infused with butters and oils providing the lips ultimate care like a lip balm.

Operating within a pH range of 4.7 to 5.5, the skin's acidity varies across individuals and body parts. Colour-changing lipsticks or pH-sticks use certain dyes, acting as pH indicators, which undergo colour transformations based on the acidity of the environment, resulting in the distinctive colour-changing effect. Unlike traditional lipsticks with fixed shades, pH lipsticks rely on individual skin pH, offering a diverse spectrum of colors. The emphasis is on adapting to the wearer's unique pH levels, making the lipstick's appearance distinct on every individual, similar to how different skin tones influence the perception of a standard lip shade," she added.

Apart from these, there are other varieties of lipsticks as well and they are as follows:

  • Sheer Lipstick: This has a translucent finish, allowing some natural lip color to show through and offers a light and natural look.

  • Stain Lipstick: This provides a lightweight, natural-looking tint to the lips and feels weightless and is long-lasting.

  • Metallic Lipstick: This contains metallic pigments for a shimmery or reflective finish ans adds a bold and eye-catching element to the lips. This is available in various colours, including metallic nudes and bold shades.

TIPS TO KEEP IN MIND WHILE APPLYING LIPSTICKS

Rajat Mathur, who is the DGM, Learning Academy, at The Body Shop India

  • It's essential to prep your lips adequately to achieve a smooth and even finish.

  • To prevent uneven, flaky, or patchy results, start by exfoliating your lips and follow up with moisturization using lip balm or a lip primer. This ensures a flawless application and a polished look.

  • Opt for a lipstick which has natural ingredient like shea butter which offers consistent nourishing moisturization.

  • Go for lipstick which are a blend of matte and satin with a velvet finish, so you get the colour pay-off and coverage of a heavy-duty lipstick, without that tacky feeling. Not too shiny, but not too matte either.

  • Prioritise lipsticks with sustainable packaging, travel-friendly attributes, and refillable cases. This choice not only contributes to societal well-being but also simplifies your routine by eliminating the need to carry multiple products, saving you from unnecessary hassle.
