With the exposure to American shows and films, the festival has gained popularity worldwide especially for the 'Thanksgiving dinner' which traditionally consists of foods and dishes like turkey, potatoes (usually mashed), stuffing, squash, corn (maize), green beans and pumpkin pie.

The holiday marks the beginning of the fall-winter holiday season in the US. It celebrates the produce/harvest and other such blessings received in the year. Families and friends sit together before their meal, express gratitude for the blessings received, and raise a toast to it.
