New Delhi: Posts from friends and family will now appear first in your news feed, according to the new update announced by Facebook. For example, if you like your brother's photos frequently, his posts will start to appear at the top of your news feed. According to IANS, Facebook has taken this decision so that "people can see what they care about first, and don't miss important stuff from their friends."

This may come as good news for those who may like to see more of what is meaningful to them and consume lesser news pieces but this will definitely hurt media outlets that rely heavily on the social networking site to lure the 1.6 billion users who use it as a source of news.

Content by publishers including links, videos and photos won't show up as often in the news feed which will result in lesser traffic for the many news media sites that are reliant on the social media giant.

Sadly, such sites don't have much of a choice but to deal with the changes Facebook has made because of the dependent relationship they share with the social network but the question here is that, though we may like to stay connected to the things that interest us, are we okay with a single company having so much control over what we read?
