What’s The Significance Of Dhanteras?

It is believed that Lord Dhanvantari bestowed the wisdom of Ayurveda to mankind to help get rid of the suffering of disease. It is interesting to note that the Ministry of AYUSH observes Dhanteras as the "National Ayurveda Day".

Also, it is believed that Dhanvantari passed on the knowledge of ancient medicine to human beings to get the cure from diseases and do away with suffering.

Going by the legend, on the day of Dhantrayodashi, Goddess Lakshmi appeared from the ocean at the time of churning of the Milky Sea also known as Samudra Manthan.

Dhanvantari emerged with a 'Kalasha' full of 'Amrit', the elixir of immortality, in one hand and the holy text about the wisdom of Ayurveda in the other hand.

Lord Dhanvantari is also the author of many texts. The Dhanvantari Samhita was also composed by Dhanvantari Dev, which is considered to be the original book of Ayurveda.

This day is considered auspicious for buying gold, silver, jewellery, and other precious metals and utensils. People also plan new investments or start businesses and also buy appliances and automobiles.
