Devshayani Ekadashi Vrat Date: Ekadashi Vrat has a special place in Hinduism. Ekadashi Vrat is kept on Ekadashi Tithi. Ekadashi Tithi comes twice in every month. Thus there are a total of 24 Ekadashis in a year. The names and significance of all these Ekadashis are different. The Ekadashi date which falls in the Shukla Paksha of the month of Ashadh, that Ekadashi date is called Devshayani Ekadashi. There is a religious belief that keeping Devshayani Ekadashi Vrat on this day i.e. on the Ashadh Shukla Ekadashi Tithi, along with getting rid of all diseases, all kinds of wishes are also fulfilled.  


Significance of Devshayani Ekadashi: It is believed in the scriptures that from this day Lord Vishnu goes to sleep in Hades for Chaturmas. Therefore, no auspicious work is done from this day till the next four months. Devshayani Ekadashi is also called Harishayani. In religious beliefs, Devshayani Ekadashi Vrat is considered to be the best Ekadashi. All the sins of a person get destroyed by this fast. All ailments go away.

According to mythology, King Mandhata was famous in all the three worlds for the works of his peop[le. Once there was a severe famine in the state, the condition of the people became very critical. In order to remove the problems of his People, King Mandhata met sage Angira and narrated his problem and asked for its solution. On this, sage Angira talked about keeping the Devshayani Ekadashi Vrat methodically and explained its importance. Following the advice of sage Angira, King Mandhata observed this fast, as a result of which it started raining in his kingdom and the people were saved from famine. All the sins of the people who observe this fast are removed and their wishes are fulfilled.
