This year, Akshaya Tritiya will be observed on April 22 across India. The festival takes place during the Vaishnava month's Shukla Paksha Tritiya. According to the Hindu calendar, Akshaya Tritiya is one of the most auspicious days of the year. As a result, many people start new businesses or projects on this day. Furthermore, the day is thought to be extremely favourable for gold and silver purchases.
On this day, people buy precious metals, machinery, and equipment in honour of Goddess Lakshmi. It is believed that the purchases and investments you make today will increase in value and remain with you forever.
The Tradition Of Buying Gold, Silver On Akshaya Tritiya:
This custom of buying gold and silver on Akshaya Tritiya can be traced back to a Mahabharata story. According to legend, Lord Krishna once paid a visit to the Pandava family while they were in exile. Draupadi (queen of Pandavas) was disappointed that she could not prepare a feast worthy of Lord Krishna's stature because he had arrived unexpectedly and after the usual lunchtime.
But Lord Krishna consoled a depressed Draupadi by extracting a small herb that had been left behind in a vessel that had previously contained food and saying that the herb would suffice because the Pandavas' love and affection had already filled his heart and stomach.
Lord Krishna then granted them a boon, through which the Sun God presented them with the Akshaya Patra, the divine inexhaustible vessel. As a result, it is assumed that what is purchased today will always provide ongoing dividends.
