At a time when the Enforcement Directorate is set to question MLA AC Moideen in connection with Karuvannur bank loan scam, the ruling CPI(M) in Kerala extended full support to their leader by alleging that the searches by the Central probe agency were part of "political vendetta". CPM General Secretary MV Govindan also termed Moideen as a "decent politician".
On Friday, MV Govindan addressing a press conference said that the raids were conducted at the residence of Moideen and his associates to keep him under a suspicious shadow with "deliberate political interference".
"The motive behind the ED's statement against Moideen is politics. There is no substance in what the Central agency is saying. The raid was conducted, even without questioning him, in the backdrop of the upcoming Puthuppally bypoll," Govindan said, as per PTI.
He further said that it was a part of the BJP-led Union government's effort to use the ED to crush opposition parties across India.
The Left leader blasted the media for giving the ED raid on Moideen's home "undue" attention and space. In addition, he criticised the opposition Congress for its silence throughout the Central agency's interference in the southern state.
When questioned about the controversy surrounding the alleged financial dealings between a private minerals company and T Veena, the daughter of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and her IT company, Govindan said that she had paid taxes on all of the money received.
Meanwhile, A.C. Moideen, a former minister and Kunnamkulam MLA, will be questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in relation to the multi-crore loan scandal at the Karuvannur Service Cooperative Bank. Moideen has been given notice by the ED to appear before it on August 31 for questioning at its Kochi office. The alleged benamis of the former Minister, P.P. Kiran, C.M. Rahim, and M.K. Shiju, have also been given notice by the ED to appear before it, reported The Hindu.
