Kerala Court found Monson Mavunkal, a controversial antique dealer, guilty of raping a minor girl a few years ago. The case was filed against him by his former maid. The Ernakulam POCSO court sentenced him to life imprisonment on Saturday. According to PTI, Mavunkal has been found guilty of raping the daughter of his maid multiple times since 2019 by the Additional District and Sessions Court (POCSO), Ernakulam.
The trial was completed on Friday and the court found him guilty under various sections of the POCSO Act.
Earlier, the complainant said that her daughter was sexually assaulted by him at the age of 17. The survivor said that she remained silent due to fear.
On September 25, 2021, Mavunkal was arrested in a cheating case against him. The District Crime Branch arrested him for allegedly cheating Rs 10 crore from different people. He has been serving his jail term since then. Currently, he has over 10 cases against him.
Earlier, Mavunkal claimed that he was in possession of rare and historic antiques. Mavunkal developed contacts with his high-profile guests by showcasing antiques in his collection which he claimed included the staff of Moses' and two of the 30 silver coins that were taken by Judas to cheat Jesus Christ.
Last year, the SC denied bail to Mavunkal since the charges against him were serious.
The Kerala High Court too dismissed two bail pleas of fraudster Monson Mavunkal after the state government's counsel strongly opposed the same. The fake antique dealer's bail pleas pertained to two cases -- one in a POCSO case and the other in a rape case.
