New Delhi: Several people including children sustained injuries after a makeshift gallery collapsed before the commencement of a local football match at Pookottumpadam Government High School ground in Malappuram on Tuesday night. The injured have been admitted to the Nilambur District Hospital and at hospitals in Wandoor and Perinthalmanna, said an Onmanorama report.
The incident reportedly occurred minutes before kick-off of a match between Koorad Top Star and KSB Kootambara. ICC Soccer Club is the organisers of the tournament. It was reported that at least 10 people were injured in the incident. The gallery was said to be constructed using bamboo and wood.

In March, a similar incident occurred when a temporary gallery in LP School ground in Malappuram collapsed, leaving over 200 people injured. The accident occurred at the Poongode stadium where the All India Sevens Football Tournament was being played. It was reported that the number of spectators who flocked the stadium were more than the seating capacity of the gallery.
Local football tournaments in the Malappuram district of Kerala are quite popular and thus spectators in thousands of numbers attended the local match which led to a gallery collapse.
