New Delhi: The Left Front winning in 24 out of the 42 wards, across 12 districts of Kerala, in the recently conducted local body by-elections indicates the increase in support for the LDF in the southern state, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Wednesday. The Chief Minister said that the results show the desire of the people for the LDF government’s social welfare activities and its policies for comprehensive development.

According to a report by news agency PTI, the results of the local body by-polls, that were declared on Wednesday, is expected to boost the confidence of the Left front ahead of the Thrikkakara assembly constituency by-poll scheduled at the end of this month.

It is to be noted that the BJP-led NDA, that won in six wards in the local body by-elections, is fairly confident of a favourable outcome in the Thrikkakara by-election.

After the results were declared earlier in the day, BJP state chief K Surendran told the PTI reporters that the three out of the six wards, won by the NDA, are in the constituencies neighbouring Thrikkakara. This indicates the mindset of the people in that constituency, he added.

Surendran also added that this was an important outcome for the party in the run-up to the by-polls in the Thrikkakara constituency later this month.

Meanwhile, the Congress-led UDF lost in eight wards that were with it earlier.

However, the UDF won in 12 out of the 42 wards where the by-elections were held.
