Moderate To Heavy Rains Likely In Kerala During Next 5 Days, Says IMD

IMD said several parts of Kerala are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall and issued an Orange alert for Monday.

Kerala is likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall during the next five days amid the influence of a cyclonic circulation prevailing over northern Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Widespread moderate to medium rainfall is likely in Kerala during the next five days while heavy rains are also expected at isolated places in the state between November 6 and 9. the weather department said, quoted PTI.

Most parts of the state received normal or slightly more rainfall last month. As per IMD data, quoted PTI, the districts of Alappuzha and Ernakulam received excess rainfall, while Thiruvananthapuram and Pathanamthitta got large excess rainfall. The weatherman stated Wayanad was the only district that remained rain-deficient till November 5. 

According to PTI, excess rainfall means a 20 per cent to 59 per cent more showers from the normal value for the season while large excess indicates an increase of 60 per cent and more rainfall from the normal value. 

On Sunday, the IMD sounded an Orange alert in Kerala for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Malappuram, Idukki, and Pathanamthitta districts on November 05 and 6. It said the rainfall is expected to be ranging from 115.6 to 204.4 mm.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the weatherman stated that Karnataka experienced significant rainfall with Belthangadi leading with 11cm, followed by Kundapur (9cm), Sulya (8cm), Puttur (7cm), and Mangaluru (7cm). 

It said that recent rainfall statistics in Tamil Nadu show Tenkasi received a maximum rainfall of 12cm, followed by Ayikudi (10cm), Elumalai (9cm), and Tiruttani (7cm).
