The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs department has seized gold worth Rs 36.5 lakhs from a passenger at Kochi airport, who was returning from Muscat. Three capsules of gold in compound form concealed inside the passenger's body were recovered and seized by the Customs department.


The gold seized was in compound form weighing 795 grams and was concealed in the passenger's body who was travelling from Muscat to Kochi.

Earlier on Wednesday (January 25), the Customs department in Kochi airport seized 1,062 grams of gold worth Rs 48.5 lakhs from a passenger. The accused was identified as Sahin, who is a native of Palakkad city in Kerala.


The accused was travelling from Dubai to Kochi and was intercepted at the green channel. Four capsules of gold in a compound form which were reportedly concealed inside the accused body. The gold was recovered and seized by the Customs department.


Even on January 19, Customs seized 906 grams of gold worth Rs 46.5 lakhs from a passenger coming from Dubai to Kochi airport. The accused was identified as Masad. He was found with four gold capsules in compound form weighing 906 grams was concealed in his body which was recovered by the Customs officials and seized. Even on January 13, Customs officials in Kochi airport intercepted with a male passenger and seized gold worth Rs 14 lakhs concealed inside the body. 


The accused was identified as Muhammad a native of the Malappuram district in Kerala. The gold weighing 281.88 grams was found inside stitched cavity of jeans pants.
