The Interpol issued a Blue Corner notice against a man accused of allegedly assaulting and attempting to murder his newly-wed wife in Kozhikode, police said on Friday. The notice was issued after it was speculated that he might have fled to his workplace in Germany.

A senior police officer in Kozhikode city has confirmed the issuance of a Blue Corner notice, effective since Thursday. This notice, issued by Interpol, aims to gather supplementary information from member countries concerning an individual's identity, whereabouts, or involvement in criminal activities.

"A request was sent to Interpol through the Ministry of External Affairs for issuing it," the officer said, as per a report on PTI.

The issuance of the Blue Corner notice follows a lookout circular issued by the police against the accused husband, Rahul P Gopal. Allegations surfaced on Tuesday via TV channels, made by the bride and her family against the accused. They claimed that he brutally assaulted and attempted to kill his wife after a dispute over dowry, just a week after their wedding on May 5.

The bride's in-laws have refuted the accusation of demanding dowry.

Gopal's mother asserted that her daughter-in-law was unwilling to reside in the matrimonial home, which sparked an argument and subsequently led to a physical altercation between the couple.

"We never demanded dowry as we do not require it," the woman had said.

In addition to police action, both the Kerala Women's Commission (KWC) and the State Human Rights Commission are investigating the matter and have requested reports from the investigating agency. The KWC has criticized the police for purportedly not taking the woman's complaint seriously initially.

She and her family had also alleged that the police tried to settle the matter between both the parties.
