The Kerala BJP is set to visit Muslim households on Eid in order to woo the minority community members with a sizeable population ahead of the Parliamentary Elections 2024. Earlier, Kerala BJP members visited the households of Christians on Easter Sunday.

According to The News 18, the BJP workers are also scheduled to meet Muslims and Christians on Vishu Day on April 15, 2023. The BJP members are also likely to give Vishu Kaineetam, a tradition of giving coins to young ones, on Saturday.

The BJP workers followed the practice of visiting Muslim homes for a long time now but this time they are planning to do it on a larger scale.

The move of BJP comes following BJP's Kerala in-charge Prakash Javdekar's direction.

Prakash Javdekar, as per News 18, said: “I must congratulate you all. On Easter Day, thousands of karyakartas went to nearly one lakh Christian homes." He added that many spoke about their experience after this visit and they were well-received."

The Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan visited Latin Catholic Chruch in Thiruvananthapuram. During the visit, he met Arch Bishop Mar George Netto.

After the meeting, Muraleedharan said that it was a courtesy call and we did not talk politics. However, Syro-Malabar Chruch Cardinal Mar George Alancherry lauded PM Modi's statesmanship.

However, the outreach programme of the BJP to Christian families created a political controversy in Kerala. The CPI(M) criticised the move by stating that RSS declared minorities including Christians and Communists as internal threats to India. They also cautioned the people against the overtures of BJP. They reminded the people about the recent attacks on churches by fringe Hindu right-wing groups in North India.

However, the BJP said that CPI(M) and Congress were making the allegation due to the fear of losing the minority vote bank.
