New Delhi: Congress workers on Tuesday pasted posters praising Palakkad MP VK Sreekandan on the windows of Vande Bharat Express' wagon as soon as it reached Shoranur in Kerala's Palakkad area.
A video shared by ANI showed people pasting posters of VK Sreekandan on the Express train in praise of his role in ensuring a stop at Shoranur Junction. Earlier, Sreekandan had warned that if a stop at Shoranur is not announced publically before the inauguration of the train, then the Congress will wave a red flag at the train, reported the Mathrubhumi. The Congress party was also prepared to stage a massive protest if the Railways' decision wouldn't have been favourable. Coincidentally, the stop for Vande Bharat Express was announced only after that.
In the clip, people were seen holding posters and placards of Sreekandan and as soon as the train slowed down upon its arrival, the Congress workers welcomed it by putting posters all over the window panes.
Railway Protection Force has lodged a case and an investigation into the matter is underway, reported news agency ANI.
Kerala's first Vande Bharat Express connects the state capital of Thiruvananthapuram with Kasaragod, the northernmost district. It will have halts at Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam Town, Thrissur, Shoranur Junction, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
BJP state president K Surendran condemned the incident, alleging that it was the action of the MP's supporters.
Sreekandan said he had not authorised anyone to paste his posters on the train and alleged that the BJP was deliberately trying to create a controversy out of it, reported PTI.
