Chennai: A video of a cop pinning a man who came to attack him with a machete on the ground went viral on social media. Upon seeing the viral video, the Director General of Police (DGP) Anil Kant lauded the sub-inspector Arun Kumar for his action and presented him with a commendation certificate.


Talking to ANI, Sub-Inspector Arun Kumar said, "On June 12, an accused stopped my vehicle & tried to attack me with a machete without any provocation, while I was on patrol duty."


"I caught him and seized the weapon and brought it to the station. He has been remanded. I have 7 stitches on my hand and no serious injuries. DGP appreciated me for my timely action," he said. 


The accused had also reportedly been following the police jeep since he was unhappy over a property dispute settlement proposed by the police between him and his brother.

According to the video, the accused was near the police patrol vehicle and when one of the cops got down from the vehicle, the man took out a long machete and tried to hack the cop. The cop immediately overpowered and pinned him down on the ground. Then the cop grabbed the machete and took him into the patrol vehicle.

Later, the police arrested the accused and seized the weapon.
