New Delhi: A video of an Auto driver engaging in a heated argument over speaking Kannada instead of Hindi with passengers has gone viral on social media. The viral video of the verbal spat is from Karnataka, although the exact location could not be confirmed.

The viral video was shared by a Twitter handle with the caption, "NorthIndians-Beggar, Our Land" These are the words used by this auto driver and this is not the only mentality of this driver but of all of these peoples. Being proud to be from Karnataka and its pride is wholly different from forcing other to speak Kannada."

The user tagged Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the tweet.

In the video, the auto driver can be seen shouting at a woman passenger asking her to speak in Kannada.

"This is Karnataka, you have to speak in Kannada, why should I speak in hindi," the auto driver said, to which one of the female passengers, who was making the video said, "No we will not speak in Kannada. She further questioned the driver and asked, "Why will we speak in Kannada", to which the auto driver said, "You people are North Indians, this is our land, not your land, you have to speak in Kannadda, why should I speak in Hindi."

A debate over regional languages and the acceptance of Hindi has been going on for decades in India. In this case, it's unclear as to what led to the heated argument - whether or not the passengers were forcing the auto driver to speak Hindi.
