Singer Kailash Kher was allegedly attacked during the closing ceremony of Hampi Utsav at Hampi on Sunday as angry men threw bottle at the singer for not singing Kannada songs.


In a tweet, ANI said, "A bottle thrown at singer Kailash Kher while he was singing in a closing ceremony of Hampi Utsav at Hampi, Vijayanagar yesterday. 2 detained over the incident."


"The men were angry at Kher for not singing Kannada songs," said police.

The incident occurred at Hampi Utsav which commenced on January 27. The event was inaugurated by Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. Besides Kailash Kher, singers Arjun Jannya, Vijaya Prakash, Raghu Dikshit, Ananya Bhatt and Arman Malik also took part in the ceremony.


The Hampi Utsav was set up at four stages -- Gayatri Peetha, Eduru Basavanna vedike, Hampi Virupaksheshwar vedike and Sasuvekalu vedike.


The three-day Hampi Utsav concluded on Sunday as the 'Janapada Vahini', a colourful procession of folk artistes became the centre of attraction for tourists. Several foreign tourists participated in the closing ceremony, said a Times of India report.


Over 40 groups of folk artistes, from other parts of the country and the state, have taken part in the closing ceremony. More than 300 artistes, drawn from several parts of the country, attracted audiences with their performances. Meanwhile, Muzrai Minister of Karnataka, Shashikala Jolle addressed the event. Several other sporting events were also conducted by the organisers across three days of the Hampi Utsav in Vijayanagara district of Karnataka.
