The mortal remains of Captain M V Pranjal, who made the ultimate sacrifice during an encounter with terrorists in the Rajouri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, arrived in Bengaluru on Friday. The 29-year-old officer from 63 Rashtriya Rifles lost his life on Wednesday in a firefight with terrorists. His body was received at the HAL airport, where Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Minister KJ George, Bengaluru MP Tejasvi Surya, and BJP state president BY Vijayendra paid their last respects.

Captain Pranjal, the son of M Venkatesh, a retired Managing Director of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), did his schooling at Surathkal in Dakshina Kannada district. MRPL, in a statement, expressed deep sorrow at the loss, hailing the brave sacrifice of "our own" Captain Pranjal. "He was the only child of our ex-MD, Shri M Venkatesh and Madam Anuradha Venkatesh," the statement read, as quoted by news agency PTI.

Captain Pranjal's School Remembers Him As 'Mature Individual Loaded With Values'

Captain Pranjal's alma mater, MRPL's Delhi Public School, remembered him as a "soft-spoken, sensitive, and mature individual loaded with values." The school highlighted his achievements as a 'Rashtrapati Scout' and his active role in mentoring junior scouts even as an alumnus, PTI reported. The statement recalled his excellence in hands-on activities in Science classes, participation in the CBSE Regional level Science Exhibition, and his role as the chief guest during school celebrations.

After completing his engineering and academic mentoring programme, Captain Pranjal joined the National Defence Academy (NDA) and enlisted in the Indian Army. The school noted his frequent visits, always with a cheerful smile, saying, "He would always say 'yes', always visit school with his classmates to meet all the teachers, administrative staff, and all the housekeeping staff."

PTI cited Defence sources as revealing that the mortal remains will be taken to Captain Pranjal's residence at Bannerghatta. Wreath laying and a guard of honour are scheduled for Saturday morning, followed by the final rites.
