New Delhi: Almost after more than 20 months since Covid-19 hit the country which threw life out of gear and nearly after nine-month of the Delta variant surge, that left many people to gasp for oxygen, things were falling back in place. But, that seems to be a wild dream for the denizens of the country as Omicron, which was first discovered in Botswana, in a month's time has been rapidly spreading and is currently prevalent in as many as 106 countries.
The union health ministry on Wednesday revealed that 236 cases of the recently discovered variant of coronavirus have been reported with Maharashtra and Delhi reporting 65 and 64 -- the highest number of cases -- respectively. But, southern states have also been on top with the highest numbers of cases reporting in Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

On Thursday, Karnataka has reported 12 fresh Omicron variant cases, Minister for Health & Family Welfare and Medical Education, Dr Sudhakar K saif on his Twitter handle. The total Omicron cases in the state stand at 31 including the 12 cases recorded on Thursday.
Kerala on the other hand has recorded five Omicron cases on Thursday. "Five people have tested #Omicron positive, out of which four reached the Cochin International Airport, Ernakulam & one reached the Bengaluru Airport. All of them have been admitted to a hospital," said health minister Veena George as quoted by ANI news agency.
