New Delhi: On his fifth visit to poll-bound Karnataka this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Shivamogga airport and lay foundation of various development projects in Belagavi on Monday, news agency PTI reported.


The new airport, built at a cost of Rs 450 crore, is expected to boost connectivity of Shivamogga and other neighbouring areas in the Malnad region.


Apart from airport, PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone of Shikaripura–Ranebennur railway line and Koteganguru Railway coaching depot. The Shivamogga–Shikaripura–Ranebennur railway line will provide better connectivity between Malnad region and Bengaluru-Mumbai mainline.




The PM will also lay the foundation stone of multiple road development projects worth over Rs 215 crore, including construction of new bypass road in Shikaripura town, widening of NH-169A from Megaravalli to Agumbe, and construction of a new bridge at Bharathipura in Teerthahalli Taluk.


He will also lay the foundation stone of multi-village schemes worth Rs 950 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission.


A total of 44 Smart City projects, worth over Rs 895 crores in Shivamogga, will also be inaugurated.


The projects include eight smart road packages, integrated command and control centre and multi-level car parking, smart bus shelter projects, intelligent solid waste management system, park and riverfront development projects, among others.


In Belagavi, PM Modi will release the 13th instalment of Rs 16,000 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi to more than eight crore beneficiaries.


He will also dedicate the Belagavi Railway station building, redeveloped at an approximate cost of about Rs 190 crore, to the public.


PM Modi will launch the rail line doubling project between Londa-Belagavi worth Rs 930 crore. The project will boost line capacity along Mumbai-Pune-Hubballi-Bengaluru railway line, leading to promotion of trade, commerce and economic activities.


Earlier on Friday, he had said that the projects are set to boost commerce, connectivity and enhance tourism in the region.
