New Delhi: JD(S) MLA H D Revanna was released from the central prison on Tuesday, following bail granted by a Special Court for Elected Representatives in a woman abduction case linked to sexual abuse allegations against his son, MP Prajwal Revanna. The woman was allegedly kidnapped to prevent her from testifying against Prajwal, news agency PTI reported citing police sources.
Supporters welcomed Revanna with slogans as he exited the jail after a six-day stay, proceeding to meet his father Deve Gowda accompanied by a large convoy of vehicles.
Addressing reporters, Revanna said he will abide by the court orders. “I will not react to anything. I have immense respect for the judiciary. I complied with the court order for the past 11 days. I will not say anything beyond this. I have faith in God. He only got me out of this situation,” the JD(S) MLA from Holenarasipura in Hassan district said, as quoted by PTI.
After his release from jail, the 66-year-old former minister visited a temple in the city and offered special prayers.
H D Revanna's Arrest By SIT Probing Allegations Against His Son Prajwal Revanna
Revanna, the son of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on May 4 in connection with an alleged case of kidnapping of a woman linked to allegations of sexual abuse involving his son, Prajwal Revanna.
The special court judge, Santhosh Gajanan Bhat, presided over the matter and granted conditional bail to Revanna. Among the conditions set forth by the court, Revanna would be released upon executing a Rs 5 lakh bond, prohibited from leaving the country, and instructed not to attempt to influence the victim or any other parties related to the case.
Revanna's three-day police custody concluded on May 8 and he was presented before the XVII Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. Subsequently, the court remanded him to seven days of judicial custody until May 14.
The case stemmed from a complaint filed by the woman's son, who accused Revanna's son, Prajwal, of sexually abusing his mother. In response, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) took action, also securing the custody of Revanna's confidant, Sathish Babanna, in connection with the case.
Babanna was arrested on May 3, and the SIT subsequently rescued the woman from a farmhouse in Mysuru’s Hunsur taluk on May 4, mere hours before Revanna's arrest at Deve Gowda's residence in Bengaluru’s Padmanabhanagar.
