Karnataka ministers and Congress MLAs started to stage a protest against the Centre alleging "injustice" to the state in tax devolution and grants-in-aid over the past few years at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Wednesday. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah along with Deputy CM DK Shivakumar reached Delhi's Jantar Mantar and started the protest against the Centre.

On the protest, Karnataka CM said, "Myself and all ministers, including the Deputy CM and all the MLAs and the MLCs, will protest. As far as the GST is concerned, the devolution of taxes is concerned, and other demands of Karnataka have not been met by the government of India."

On Karnataka Congress protest against Centre in Delhi, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge said, "We are here to protect interests of Kannadigas on the devolution of taxes, the drought relief amount which has not been provided."

He said, "There are four-five demands. Devolution of taxes, we are not getting the drought relief amount...The centre should understand that Karnataka is an economic powerhouse."

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara highlighted the lack of response from the Centre amidst the ongoing protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. "We have been requesting the government of India for our share of the GST. Also, we have submitted a memorandum because we are very seriously affected by drought, and we have requested Rs 18,000 crore (of aid). However, nothing has happened," said Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara.

BJP Stages Protest Against Cong-Led Govt














On the day, the Congress announced a protest against "injustices" toward Karnataka at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Wednesday, BJP leaders held a protest against the Congress government led by CM Siddaramaiah in Karnataka, both near the Gandhi Statue in Vidhana Soudha and outside Parliament in Delhi on the same day.
