A 23-year-old man was arrested for allegedly attacking his wife with a knife during a session of marital counseling inside a woman's police station in Hassan district headquarters town, police said on Monday. The woman had approached Karnataka police and filed a complaint against her husband alleging torture and ill-treatment. The police said, the woman filed a complaint against her husband fed up of alleged "torture" and "ill-treatment" as he suspected her of having an extramarital affair.

According to the police, on Sunday afternoon, the couple who were married two years ago were summoned for counseling at the police station. During the session, the man was questioned regarding his behavior and alleged mistreatment of his wife.

The woman consistently accused him of frequent misbehavior and ill-treatment, fueled by suspicions of her involvement in an affair. Despite counseling, she adamantly refused to return home with him.

Apparently provoked by his wife's accusations and refusal, the man retrieved a knife from his pocket, brought from home, and assaulted her within the confines of the police station.

He also attempted to stab her in the neck, resulting in a deep cut, said a senior police officer, as reported by PTI.

The police officials soon overpowered him. They then took him into custody.

The woman who sustained grievous injuries was rushed to a nearby hospital where she is undergoing treatment. She is out of danger, he added, as per the report.
