Chennai: An earthquake hit Vijayapura and Bagalkot in Karnataka at 6.22 Am on Saturday. The tremor experienced in the district recorded 4.6 magnitude on the Richter scale. 


The low-intensity tremors were experienced in Vijayapura city, Indi, Jamkhandi of Bagalkot among others.


The tremor also left some of the buildings damaged in the region. 


Videoes emerging from Vijayapura showed cracks in the buildings. A CCTV footage inside a home in Vijayapura showed the family members who were seen sleeping suddenly waking up and rushing out due to the impact of the tremor.

However, there is no official statement yet regarding the frequent termors in the regions. Yet, the officials rushed to the villages that experienced the tremor.


The earthquake reported on Saturday is the fifth in Karnataka in two weeks.

On July 1 at 1.15 am, a tremor with noise was experienced in Dakshina Kannada. Another tremor measuring 3.5 magnitude on the Ritcher scale was experienced on June 28 at 7.45 am in parts of Dakshina Kannada. Another tremor measuring 2.3 magnitude was also experienced in the same region on June 25. 


In Hassan district of Karnataka, tremors were felt on June 23. In all the tremor, cracks appeared on the walls of some of the residential buildings in the vicinity.


The series of tremors have also created a fear among the people of Karnataka.
