Chennai: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai tested positive for novel coronavirus on Saturday. As a result of his health condition, the CM said that his trip to Delhi scheduled for attending the national committee of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' and NITI Aayog's Governing Council meet stays canceled.


In a tweet in English and Kannada, CM Bommai said, "I have tested positive for COVID. I have mild symptoms and have isolated myself at home. Those who came in contact with me in the last few days kindly isolate yourself and get tested."


"My trip to Delhi stands canceled," he said.

Bommai was scheduled to travel to New Delhi on Saturday for a two-day visit to take part in the national committee of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' and NITI Aayog's Governing council meet.


Bommai is also expected to meet senior BJP leaders in Delhi to discuss on the strategy and preparation for Karnataka Assembly elections 2023.

Earlier, Bommai went to Delhi on a two-day visit from July 25 to attend the oath-taking ceremony of President Droupadi Murmu and to discuss about the Karnataka cabinet expansion plans.
