Chennai: JD(S) member Shivananda Patil Somajal who was announced as the candidate from Sindagi constituency for the next assembly elections passed away due to a heart attack on Friday.


Shivanand reportedly complained of chest pain and was rushed to a hospital. However, the doctors declared him brought dead. 


Taking to social media, JD(S) party leader and former CM HD Kumaraswamy said, “Shivananda Patil, who was announced as the JD(S) candidate for the next assembly elections from Sindagi constituency, passed away due to a heart attack late on Friday night.”






Remembering Somajal, HDK said, "Patil, who retired after selfless service in the army, had an irrepressible desire for social service. He had excellent organizational skills and dynamism and became very dear to me within a short time of his acquaintance."


"I am personally deeply saddened by the passing away of Mr. Sivananda Patil. I pray that his soul rest in eternal peace and that the family is given strength to bear the grief," he said.

Taking to Twitter, Janata Dal Secular said, "Deeply saddened to report that Sivananda Patil, JD(S) candidate for Sindagi Assembly Constituency passed away untimely due to heart attack. On this occasion, we pray that his family gets the strength to bear this grief."






Earlier, Somajal actively took part in the Pancharatna yatra undertaken by JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy. On January 18, he participated in the yatra in Vijayapura and Nagatana constituencies. 


Somajal is survived by his wife and daughter. 


Patil was from Somajala village in Sindagi taluk but he settled in Dharwad after his retirement. Patil is also known for his work during the pandemic.
