Bengaluru on Sunday received heavy rains with waterlogging in several areas of the IT hub leading to waterlogging and traffic congestion in parts of the city.
Several areas of the Karnataka capital - Seshadripuram, Sivananda Circle, Vijayanagar, Shivajinagar, Malleswaram, Vasantnagar, MG Road and Kabban Park - reported rains as the Southwest monsoon makes its onset in Southern states.
The rains led to waterlogging in several parts of the city with internet users taking to social media to share photos and videos of the clogged roads.
A social media user from Jayanagar posted photos of a tree that fell following heavy rains blocking the road. Many others expressed anguish at the lack of preparedness of the municipal authorities in view of the monsoon.
Bengaluru Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic said there was congestion in parts of the capital with waterlogging at 58 locations and trees falling in 39 locations in the city.
"Today due to heavy rains, we have had waterlogging at 58 locations and tree fall at 39 locations on important arterial roads of Bengaluru. Congestion is high. Civic Agencies are working to clear the roads," the Joint Commissioner of Police said in a post on X.
Several trees were also uprooted due to intense thunderstorms with strong winds leading to disruption in metro line services on Trinity Metro Station on the Purple Line.
Earlier today, the India Meteorological Department said that the monsoon had covered most parts of south Karnataka, including Bengaluru.
"Monsoon has covered most parts of south Karnataka including Bengaluru city. The southwest monsoon has advanced into some more parts of the central Arabian Sea, the remaining parts of the Lakshadweep area and Kerala, Tamil Nadu, some parts of Karnataka, Rayalaseema and Andhra Pradesh, remaining parts of Southwest Bay of Bengal and more parts of Central and Northwest Bay of Bengal,” IMD stated in its daily weather report for Karnataka.
