Bengaluru received unexpected rainfall on Friday evening as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) initially forecasted no rain. The city has received rain for the second consecutive day, providing relief to its residents from the scorching summer after nearly six months of dry weather.

Initially, the IMD's 5.30 pm forecast indicated no rain for Bengaluru. However, by 7 pm, they revised their forecast to anticipate light to moderate thundershowers in select districts, including Bengaluru Urban.

According to the Deccan Herald, a senior official from the IMD, Bengaluru, mentioned that a clearer assessment of Bengaluru's total rainfall would be available on Friday. The IMD has forecasted cloudy skies with light rain for the day.

This marks a unique occurrence as Bengaluru has encountered a completely rainless April, a phenomenon not observed since 1983. It was the driest April on record, even though there were a few days when light drizzles occurred in some parts of the city, but not enough to register on the IMD. During the month, the city saw some of the hottest days on record due to the lack of rain.

The meteorological center has predicted cloudy skies with light rain for Friday, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected to reach 38 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively. Minimum temperatures are projected to drop by another degree for the remainder of the week.

Several netizens shared visuals of rain rejoicing the respite from the May heat.
