New Delhi [India], Oct. 27 (ANI): External Affairs Minister (MEA) Sushma Swaraj on Friday requested Women and Child Development Minister, Maneka Gandhi, to probe the adoption process of three-year-old girl Sherin Mathews, whose body was found in a culvert in suburban Dallas in Texas.

In the wake of the incident, the ministry has decided to issue the passport for the adopted children only after approval by the Ministry of Child Development.

Sherin Mathews of Richardson, Texas, went missing on October 7. Her body was found from a culvert in suburban Dallas, Texas on Sunday.

Her father, Wesley Mathews, first told the authorities that he ordered the child to stand next to a tree behind the fence at their home at around 3 a.m. on Oct. 7 as punishment for not drinking her milk and she went missing. He was charged with child endangerment. He later confessed that the child choked while drinking milk and he moved the body out of the family's home.

Mathews has been charged with first-degree felony that carries maximum punishment of 99 years. (ANI)
