Interestingly, Bhendi Bazaar is the only area where a distinct Gharana of Indian Classical Music developed in the late 1890's. On Thursday (Aug 31), over a dozen people were crushed to death, while scores were feared trapped after a 5-floor building collapded here. Due to its crumbling infrastructure, the area is set to be revamped and the project is being undertaken by Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust initiated by Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, head of the Dawoodi Bohra community.
