India-Russia Ties: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow this past week, for the first time in nearly three years, defence cooperation emerged as a prominent theme. In the run-up to and during the official trip on July 8-9, there were several developments around military-technical collaboration and strategic partnership between India and Russia. Modi chose Russia — and not a neighbouring country, as he did in 2014 and 2019 after becoming the PM
