Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that India has always believed that adding new members will strengthen BRICS as an organisation. Speaking at the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, PM Modi stated that India has always supported the expansion of BRICS. "India has always supported the expansion of BRICS. India has always believed that adding new members will strengthen BRICS as an organisation," PM Modi said.
The prime minister hailed the three-day summit saying that a lot of positive results came out. “I am glad that in this 3-day meeting, a lot of positive results have come out," PM Modi said.
PM Modi's remarks came after South African President and BRICS Chair Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that the group has adopted the Johannesburg Declaration 2, inviting Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE to become full members. They will become full members from Jan 1, 2024.
Speaking on the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, PM Modi termed it a huge achievement not only for India but also for the global scientific community. "Yesterday, India's Chandrayaan-3 did a soft landing on the moon. This is a huge achievement not only for India but also for the global scientific community," PM Modi said. He also said, "It is a matter of pride for us that this achievement is being accepted as an achievement for all of humanity... ...On behalf of India, its people and our scientists, I thank the scientists and the world's scientific community for their wishes on this historic moment."
