New Delhi: The new variant of Covid-19, Omicron, has become a major cause of concern for health experts across the world. India has stepped up its vigilance after the new variant was found here a few days back.

For the Delta strain, the dominat strain in India till date that wreaked havoc early in this year, has some common symptoms in a person infected by it. The most common symptoms include difficulty in breathing, high fever, weakness, loss of taste and smell. However, the symptoms for the Omicron variant are quite different.

Symptoms of Omicron variant

Omicron is said to be the most contagious of all Covid-19 variants so far. As per reports, none of the patients infected by this variant were seen to have the common symptoms of Covid-19. None of them had flu-like symptoms that are prominent in the Delta strain.

According to the doctor who first informed about Omicron, patients with this variant did not have classic symptoms of Covid.

Dr. Angelique Coetzee, president of the South African Medical Association, said that the three major symptoms of Omicron include headache, extreme fatigue, and back pain. The patients neither have a high fever nor do they lose the sense of taste and smell.

Things to be kept in mind

Precautions are absolutely mandatory. Get the Covid test done immediately as soon as you notice any symptom and isolate yourself. This is the only way of preventing the infection from spreading. Use masks properly, follow social distancing, consume healthy food, and get vaccinated as soon as possible if you haven't had both doses administered yet.
