New Delhi: As many as seventy people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district. The people who contracted SARS-CoV-2 in the district include 14 children. 


The newly reported cases have pushed the total number of active infections to over 200, the district health department said on Saturday, news agency PTI reported. 


The department said that the number of active cases in the district, adjoining Delhi, has reached 218 now, according to a PTI report. 


As many as eight people have recovered from Covid-19 since Friday 6 am, according to official figures. 


“Of the 70 new cases, 14 are children below 18 years of age who have tested positive for COVID-19,” the report quoted Chief Medical Officer Sunil Kumar Sharma as saying.

The health department has asked residents to inform officials about any suspected case or symptoms of the novel coronavirus to any person on the dedicated helpline number - 1800492211. The residents can also inform officials through the following emails: cmogbnr@gmail.com, and ncmogbnr@gmail.com.


A total of 98,902 people in Gautam Buddh Nagar have tested positive for Covid-19, since the outbreak of the pandemic in March 2020. As many as 490 of them have died due to infection with the novel coronavirus.


India on Saturday reported 975 new coronavirus infections, 796 recoveries, and 4 deaths in the last 24 hours.


India's infection tally rose to 4,30,40,947, while the active cases have risen to 11,366, according to the Union health ministry data.
