New Delhi: India’s Omicron tally has reached 8,891 with a rise of 8.31 percent since yesterday. The covid-19 caseload has reached 17,36,628 with a jump of 2,38,018 fresh cases in the last 24 hours.
The number of deaths reported in the last 24 hours was 310 along with 1,57,421 recoveries. The daily covid positivity rate stands at 14.43 percent currently. And the active cases stand for 4.62 percent of total cases.
Maharashtra has recorded 31,111 new covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, 10216 less than the previous day. The number of fatalities recorded in the last 24 hours was 24. However, Mumbai has shown a decline in fresh cases by lodging 5,956 new covid-19 cases. On the other hand, Delhi reported 12,537 fresh covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours with 24 deaths.
West Bengal Caseload
Meanwhile, West Bengal recorded 9,385 cases in the last 24 hours which was 5,553 less than Sunday’s count. The number of deaths recorded was 33. In order to curb the spread of the virus, the West Bengal government has extended the restriction till January 31.
While marriages and other gatherings are allowed in a restricted manner, the night curfew and travel restrictions are still in place. All schools, colleges, and other educational institutions are also closed till January 31.
According to news agency PTI, the night curfew in West Bengal is in place from 10 PM to 5 AM exempting health, law and order, transport of essential commodities including agricultural produce, and other emergency services.
