New Delhi: India has recorded a single-day rise of 21,880 coronavirus cases, taking its COVID-19 tally to 4,38,47,065, while the number of active cases in the country climbed to 1,49,482, the Union health ministry informed on Friday.


This comes after the country registered 21,566 COVID-19 cases on Thursday and reported 15,528 new infections on Wednesday.


According to the ministry's data, the death toll due to the viral disease has gone up to 5,25,930 with 60 more fatalities.

The active cases account for 0.34 per cent of the total caseload, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.46 per cent.


An increase of 601 cases was recorded in the active COVID caseload in a span of 24 hours.


The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.42 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 4.51 per cent.


The number of people who have recuperated from the disease has gone up to 4,31,71,653 with 21,219 more patients who recovered, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.2 per cent.


According to the ministry, 201.30 crore doses of COVID vaccines have so far been administered under the nationwide vaccination drive.


The 60 new fatalities include 22 from Kerala, seven from Chhattisgarh, six each from Maharashtra and West Bengal, three from Himachal Pradesh, two each from Assam, Gujarat, Manipur, Meghalaya and one each from Bihar, Delhi, Goa, Karnataka, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
