India on Tuesday witnessed another massive surge in its Covid-19 cases with over 60,000 cases reported in a day and over 800 fatalities, pushing the overall tally to over 31.67 lakh. As per the Union Ministry of Family & Welfare, India's Covid-19 case tally crosses 31 lakh mark with 60,975 fresh cases and 848 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The Covid-19 case tally in the country rises to 31,67,324 including 7,04,348 active cases, 24,04,585 cured/discharged/migrated & 58,390 deaths, Ministry of Health has stated.

Over 3.5 crore tests conducted so far:

The total number of samples tested up to 24th August is 3,68,27,520 including 9,25,383 samples tested yesterday,  Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said.

India has tested more than 3.5 crore people for Covid-19  so far, resolutely following its 'test track treat' strategy, the health ministry has said in a statement.

Important Figures:

India’s recovery rate, despite an increased testing has shown a good progress, as per the government.

  • With 58390 deaths, India’s fatality rate is 1.84%.

  • With 2404585 recoveries, the recovery rate has improved to 75.92%

  • 24% cases are active cases as of now.


Worst-hit states:

As per the data provided by the ministry, Maharashtra -- the worst affected state from the infection -- has a total of 1,68,443 active cases and 22,465 fatalities. While Tamil Nadu has a total of 53,282 active cases and 6,614 fatalities in the state due to the coronavirus.

Andhra Pradesh has a total of 89,516 active cases and 3,368 deaths. Karnataka has a total of 81,230 active cases and 4,810 deaths. Delhi has reported 11,626 active cases and 4,313 deaths due to COVID-19.
