'Long Covid' means being affected by coronavirus infection for a long time. The condition of showing symptoms for a few weeks to several months has been named as long covid. New research by Max Hospital in India has shown that 40 percent of people had to deal with the symptoms of Long Covid.


This research was conducted on 1000 people between April and August 2020. Corona infection in patients was confirmed through the RT-PCR test. The patients were discharged after being treated in 3 facilities of Max hospitals.

The results showed that 31.8 percent of the 990 patients had post-Covid symptoms even after 3 months, with 11 percent showing some symptoms for 9-12 months from the onset of the disease. Fatigue was found to be the most common symptom in 12.5 percent, while muscle pain was the second most common post-covid symptom in 9.3 percent. Breathlessness was also reported to be significantly more frequent in those who initially had severe symptoms.

The new research may help understand the need for long-term follow-up and rehabilitation programs as needed by patients who have recovered from COVID-9. Doctors said that even those who had mild symptoms and were cured at home may suffer from breathlessness and fatigue. Recently, doctors in Mumbai have noticed a new case of post-Covid complication in the form of 'bone death.


It affects the hip joint and thigh bone examined bones of Covid-19 patients. Avascular necrosis or AVN is a condition where the blood supply to the bone is affected, gradually leading to bone death. Dr. Bornali Dutta said that Long Covid usually is detected within four weeks. This could be a prolongation of the Covid-19 symptoms or a return of symptoms.
