New Delhi: God of War: Ragnarok release date is still a mystery. While the PlayStation-exclusive action-adventure title is set to release sometime this year, fans were eagerly waiting for a showcase of the game on PlayStation State of Play in May. However, as per a known industry insider as well as a message from the game’s director Cory Barlog, it appears that an official State of Play showcase of God of War: Ragnarok may not be happening any time soon. God of War: Ragnarok is a sequel to the critically acclaimed God of War reboot, which debuted in 2018.

For those unaware, State of Play is a virtual event where Sony showcases upcoming PlayStation games in detail, often revealing an official release date for much-awaited titles. The last State of Play event took place in March, where the upcoming Harry Potter game, Hogwarts Legacy was showcased in all its glory.

Late last month, a fan-made God of War account tweeted a poster, suggesting that the God of War: Ragnarok State of Play event will be broadcast on May 27. The post was quickly refuted by insider Ashhong on the ResetEra platform, who simply said “too soon last I checked.”

This development came under the backdrop of a similar statement from Barlog. On April 20, as fans celebrated the fourth anniversary of the first God of War’s release, Barlog took to Twitter to say that the game is “just not ready to be shown.” Here’s what he said: “God of War Ragnarok, the elephant in the room. We haven’t said a lot about this. That’s because everybody is heads down, hard at work. We are perfectionists. Everyone’s tightening up the graphics on level three. There is so much going on right now that I just wish that we could share it with you, but it’s just not ready to be shown. But I guarantee you the moment, the very second that we have something that we’re ready to share, we’re going to share it with you because we don’t want to hold any of this back. So please hold tight, know that something cool is coming and that we, everybody here at Santa Monica is so incredibly thankful for all the support that you’ve given us.”

Considering the above, it’s safe to speculate that a God of War: Ragnarok State of Play is not happening anytime soon.
