Ghost of Tsushima sequel has finally been announced. Named Ghost of Yotei, the game has been announced during Sony's State of Play event. The new instalment introduces Atsu, a female protagonist, and is set in a fresh location — around Mount Yōtei in Northern Japan — during the 1600s. The game is expected to launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 in 2025.

Ghost Of Yotei: New Protagonist

The sequel introduces a fresh character, Atsu, who takes over from Jin Sakai, the samurai protagonist of the first game. In the reveal trailer, Atsu is seen wielding an assortment of weapons, including an uchigatana, a chained weapon, and even a rifle.

She is also accompanied by a wolf, hinting at more dynamic interactions with wildlife. Sucker Punch emphasized that the new story is not just a continuation but a reinvention of the "Ghost" concept, exploring the origins of a new legend.

Ghost Of Yotei: New Location

Set in 1603, more than three centuries after the original, Ghost of Yotei moves away from the island of Tsushima to the wild, untamed region near Mount Yōtei, a volcano located in what is now Hokkaido.

This new location promises players a vast, open-world environment with diverse landscapes, including grassy plains and snowy tundras. Unlike Tsushima’s samurai-governed society, the new setting reflects a region beyond the control of the Japanese government at the time, filled with unexpected challenges.

Ghost Of Yotei: Upgrades For PS5

The studio also teased significant visual and gameplay upgrades made possible by the PlayStation 5. According to Sucker Punch, players can expect stunning graphical improvements, including expansive sightlines, realistic skies with stars and auroras, and highly detailed environmental effects like wind interacting with vegetation. The world of Ghost of Yotei is designed to feel more immersive and lifelike than ever before.

Further details on gameplay and story are expected in the coming months. Ghost of Yotei is slated for release exclusively on PS5 in 2025.
