CD Projekt, Poland's leading video game producer, has revealed exciting news during the Xbox Games Showcase. The company announced the highly-anticipated expansion for their flagship game, Cyberpunk 2077, titled "Phantom Liberty," which is set to be released on September 26. This marks CD Projekt's first major premiere following the problematic launch of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020.

During the showcase, a trailer for the upcoming expansion was unveiled by the iconic actor Keanu Reeves, who will reprise his role as Johnny Silverhand. Joining the star-studded cast is renowned actor Idris Elba, portraying a brand-new character named Agent Solomon Reed.

It is noteworthy that "Phantom Liberty" will be the final project developed using CD Projekt's proprietary technology, RED Engine. Moving forward, the company has decided to adopt the external Unreal Engine for their upcoming ventures.

Fans can look forward to experiencing "Phantom Liberty" on PC as well as next-generation consoles, ensuring a wide range of players can immerse themselves in the expanded Cyberpunk 2077 universe.

CD Projekt had previously shared that they achieved an impressive milestone of selling 20 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077 by September. This demonstrated the game's popularity and set the stage for the eagerly anticipated expansion.

Cyberpunk 2077 was released in December 2020 to much fanfare. Thanks to developer CD Prokekt's immense success with The Witcher games, accompanied with the increased sales of video games during the Covid-induced lockdowns, it was expected that Cyberpunk 2077 would be an instant hit. However, the game's release felt rushed as users complained heavily of game-breaking glitches, especially on PC.

CD Projekt went ahead and released several major patches to fix the game, and with time, the game finally managed to find its footing and see some boost in sales.
