    Australian cricketer Travis Head has not dedicated the World Cup victory to Palestine. A parody X account named after Head first posted this claim.


What Is The Claim?


Following Australia's victory in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 on November 19, a screenshot from a Twitter account allegedly belonging to Travis Head (@TravisHead_07) went viral. The tweet (archived here) read, “I dedicate this victory to innocent people of Palestine. May peace be prevail all over the world. Special thanks to @babarazam258 for the bat always proved lucky for me.”


Several users shared this screenshot on Facebook, praising Head's gesture with captions like, “Respect Travis Head who dedicated this victory For the people of Palestine.” Archived versions of such posts can be found here and here.

What We Found


Our investigation found no evidence that Head made any such statement dedicating the 2023 World Cup victory to Palestine.


A Google search for the "@TravisHead_07" account from the viral screenshot revealed an X account with the same name and profile picture, established in August 2023. This account's bio clearly labels it as a parody account: "A proud husband and father. Parody Account.”

Further examination of this account showed it frequently posts pro-Palestinian content alongside parody material.


Searching X for Head's official account led us to “@travishead34,” which was created in May 2013. The bio links to Head's official Instagram and mentions affiliations with teams like West End Redbacks and Adelaide Strikers. This account, inactive since 2018, contains no posts about dedicating the World Cup victory to Palestine.


Additionally, a review of Head's official Instagram revealed no dedication by him of the World Cup victory to Palestine.


The Verdict


Australian cricketer Travis Head did not dedicate the team's World Cup victory to Palestine. The circulating claim originates from a parody account and is false.
