SC To Decide If A Hindu Spouse Should Pay Alimony In A Void Marriage—All You Need To Know
The Hindu Marriage Act (HMA) is a personal law which deals with marriage, divorce and alimony among Hindus.
The Supreme Court in a recent order has directed the constitution of a special three-judge bench to decide whether alimony can be granted if the marriage has been declared void under Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 (HMA).
A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and PB Varale in an August 22 order noted that several division benches have given conflicting views while interpreting the Section 24 and 25 of the Hindu Marriage Act (1955) and referred the case to a larger bench.
