New Delhi: Veteran actor Vikram Gokhale, who is battling for his life at the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune, is showing slow and steady improvement, according to the hospital statement.
The hospital statement shared by the actor’s family states that Gokhale, who had suffered multiple organ failures, is now opening his eyes, and opening his limb, and is likely to be off ventilator support in 48 hours. His BP and heart rate are also stable.
Vikram Gokhale suffered from a serious liver disease that ultimately led to disfunctioning of the other vital organs.
On Wednesday news of his death circulated like wildfire and on Thursday family and friends of the actor gave his health update and dismissed all the rumours.
"Vikram Gokhale has been fighting for life since the past 24 hours. He has suffered multiple organ failures. The doctors' team is trying its best. That's what we have been informed," his family friend said on Thursday, talking briefly to the media.
The hospital's PRO too addressed the media and said that a meeting between Vikram Gokhale's family & doctors took place on Thursday morning at 10 am.
Son of the prominent Marathi theatre and cinema actor, Chandrakhant Gokhale, Gokhale has acted in major Bollywood films like Sanjay Leela Bhansali's romantic 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' (1999), where he was Aishwarya Rai's music maestro father; Kamal Haasan's 'Hey Ram' (2001); as Acharya Yagyaprakash Bharti in 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa' (2007); and in Priyadarshan's rib-tickler 'De Dana Dan' (2009) as a diplomat, and many others.
He donned the director's hat in 2010 with Marathi film 'Aaghaat' and bagged the National Film Award for Best Actor category for his Marathi film 'Anumati', and has been conferred the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2011 for his Acting in Theatre.
