New Delhi: Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday are awaiting the release of their upcoming film 'Liger'.  While the current 'boycott' trend on Twitter has significantly affected the performances of latest releases like Aamir Khan's 'Laal Singh Chaddha', Southern heartthrob Vijay Deverakonda is not affected by it. Recently, the 'boycott Liger' trend began on Twitter because of Karan Johar's alleged involvement in the film.

During a press event in Vijayawada, Vijay Deverakonda threw light on this entire boycott trend. Stating that they started the film in 2019 when there was no such trend and in 2020, they were already shooting the film. According to Vijay, there was no one better than Karan Johar to take 'Liger' to the pan-India level considering how the producer-filmmaker had done the same for SS Rajamouli's 'Baahubali' franchise which turned out to be a blockbuster in the North and the Hindi-speaking belt of India. While the script and production was theirs, Karan Johar partnered to release the film in Hindi and thus the humongous reach in North was thanks to his help, Vijay was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

The Southern superstar also added that there is no reason to fear as they have put their heart and soul in 'Liger'. Vijay said that when it feels you are right, there is no need to listen to anybody. Sharing his love for the country, Vijay added that he is not someone to sit in front of computers and tweet.

'Liger' has been helmed by Puri Jagannadh. This pan-India film is about the life of an MMA boxer who stammers, played by Vijay. The film also features Ramya Krishnan, Ronit Roy and Makarand Deshpande. Legendary boxing champion MIke Tyson also has a cameo in the film and will be making his Indian film debut with 'Liger'.

Produced by Dharma Productions and Puri Connects and simultaneously shot in Hindi and Telugu, 'Liger' is slated to release on August 25, 2022.
