Actors Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan starrer Coolie No. 1 was released on Amazon Prime Video. Soon after the release, movie buffs started reviewing the movie on social media and it was seen that they were in two minds. Some really found it entertaining and pretty massy while some criticised and trolled the film. Amidst all this, in a recent interview, the actor was asked if he aims to be a massy hero, to which he replied that the reaction of people is the most important thing for him and it is the masses that he works for.

Talking about it, Varun told IANS that he enjoys doing mass films, 'It's difficult to do and it is larger than life, and you need to have immense conviction while doing them. I enjoy it. For me, making a film is about trying to please everyone but obviously, the kind of reaction that you get from the common man is the most important thing.' Varun even said that as he grew up in Juhu, opposite the beach, for him, is his audience.

Varun further added, 'I can be fake and try and be cool now because my film is on OTT. But that (the masses) is my audience and that is who I work for. Anyone who says, 'oh you are uncool because you are doing a massy film', (my reaction would be) 'Okay, I am uncool and I don't care'.'

Reportedly, the movie became the most-watched film on the OTT platform soon after its release. Though fans were quick to watch the comedy-drama, it could not garner a good IMDb rating. The IMDb rating of ‘Coolie No 1’ stands at 1.3 narrowly beating 'Sadak 2' starring Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt and Aditya Roy Kapur, which has an IMDb rating of 1.1.

Other than Varun and Sara, 'Coolie No 1' also stars Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and Javed Jaffrey in pivotal roles. This movie also marks David Dhawan’s 45th film as a director and has been bankrolled by Jackky Bhagnani, Vashu Bhagnani, and Deepshika Deshmukh.
