New Delhi: Veteran playback singer Vani Jairam left for her heavenly abode on Saturday, February 4. The popular singer was 78 years old. Vani Jayaram, who had a career spanning over five decades, breathed her last at her Chennai home on Saturday.
Vani Jairam has sung in 19 Indian languages including Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Bengali and Tulu. The legendary singer sung over 10,000 songs including devotionals and private albums. She has also performed several solo concerts across the world.
On the Republic Day, she was also announced as the recipent of Padma Bhushan 2023, the third-highest civilian award in the Republic of India.
Vani Jairam also bagged National Film Awards for Best Female Playback Singer thrice. She has also won state government awards for her singing from states including Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.

1. Bole Re Papihara- Guddi
The popular song 'Bole Re Papihara' from Guddi was sung by Vani Jayaram. The song's lyrics were were written by Gulzar and Vasant Desai, respectively. The Hindi comedy and social drama Guddi was released in 1971 and starred Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Vijay Sharma, Sumita Sanyal, and A K Hangal. Hrishikesh Mukherjee, N C Sippy, and Hrishikesh Mukherjee are responsible for its production and direction.
2. Humko Mann Ki Shakti Dena- Guddi
Gulzar wrote the lyrics to Hum Ko Man Ki Shakti Dena, which was sung by Vani Jairam to Vasant Desai's original melody.
3. More Saajan Souten Ghar Jaye- Pakeezah
Vani Jairam sung Pakeezah's song Mora Sajan Sautan Ghar Jaye. Majrooh Sultanpuri wrote the song's lyrics, while Naushad provided the music. The cast of the 1972 Hindi film Pakeezah includes Ashok Kumar, Meena Kumari, Raaj Kumar, Veena, and Sapru. Kamal Amrohi is the one who produced and directed it.
4. Maine Tumhe Paa Liya- Jurm Aur Sazaa
Vani Jayaram once again lent her melodious voice to the song 'Maine Tumhe Paa Liya' from the movie Jurm Aur Sazaa starring Vinod Mehra and Nanda. The song's lyrics were penned by Ram Bhardwaj while music was composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal. The male part was sung by legendary singer Mohd. Rafi.
5. Pyar Kabhi Kam Na Karna Sanam- Ek Mutthi Aasman
Pyar Kabhi Kam Na Karna Sanam is a Hindi language song and is sung by Kishore Kumar and Vani Jayaram. Pyar Kabhi Kam Na Karna Sanam, from the album Ek Mutthi Aasman, was released in the year 1973.
Vani Jayaram was born as Kalaivani in Vellore to Duraisamy and Padmavathi on November 30, 1945. She married her husband Jayaram and moved into a family which supported music. Her mother-in-law Padma Swaminathan was a famous Carnatic singer and a social activist. Later, she moved to Mumbai and learned vocal forms including Ghazal and Bhajan.
