New Delhi: Uorfi Javed has a reputation for always saying what she thinks. At a recent event, renowned author Chetan Bhagat discussed the detrimental effects of smartphone use on young Indians, citing the case of Uorfi Javed, whose spectacular Instagram photographs and videos have garnered millions of likes.

During his appearance on Aaj Tak, Chetan Bhagat made the following statement: “Phone has been a great distraction for the youth, especially the boys, spending hours just watching Instagram reels. Everyone knows who Urfi Javed is.”

He referred to a picture that Javed had uploaded in which she was holding two phones. Those images, the author claims, spread faster than the news.

On Saturday, Uorfi responded to the criticism of Chetan's statements by posting a story on her Instagram account. In a biting remark, Urfi mocked the writer who was implicated during India's #MeToo campaign.

The actress accused Chetan of encouraging rape culture and questioning women's freedom in a subsequent tweet in which she tagged him. She wrote, "Stop promoting rape culture you sickos out there! Blaming a woman's clothes for the behaviour of men is so 80's mr @chetanbhagat. Who was distracting you when you msged girls half of your age? Always blame the opposite gender, never accept your own shortcomings or faults! People like you are misguiding the youth not me. Encouraging men to put the blame on the women or her clothing when they are at fault."

Uorfi went even farther by sharing screenshots of Chetan's leaked WhatsApp conversation with a young girl and accusing him of normalising rape. She criticised Chetan using leaked messages from WhatsApp that had just gone viral.

A member of the paparazzi sought her opinion on the matter, and she replied she had no idea why the author chose to bring her up during a literary event.
