Ahemedabad: SAB TV show 'Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma' team was shocked when they got news about the demise of popular Gujarati humourist Taarak Mehta. The inspiration behind the show, Taarak Mehta passed away on Wednesday morning after prolonged illness. He was 88.


Mehta died here, his family confirmed. They also intend to donate Mehta's body to science. A relative of the writer, Atul Bhatt said: "He died of old age." Bhatt is a doctor.
Mehta's famous works include "Duniya Ne Undha Chasma", which inspired the hit Hindi sitcom "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah". He has also written six popular Gujarati plays.

In year 2008, SAB TV started the show 'Taarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashmah' and soon it became a superhit show due to its funny yet knowledgeable stories. The TV actor Dilip Joshi who portrays the role of 'Jethalal' in the show was deeply deeply saddened to hear the news. While talking to DNA, he said "I just heard the news. We are also busy finishing our episodes and suddenly we got to know he's no more. It's extremely sad. But we knew he was not keeping well. It's also mostly because of old age. He was suffering a lot especially in the last few months . But this news has shocked the entire team. Everyone is extremely sad now."

Recently, the prominent character of the show 'Tappu' quit the TV show. The role was played by Bhavya Gandhi.
Born in December 26, 1929, Mehta was honoured with Padma Shri in 2015.
